Firestarting Event

Our Fire Event is this Sunday, August 2nd from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

We will be in the special use area / youth camping area of the Port Barrington Fox River Marina off of Roberts road (28500 W Roberts Rd, Port Barrington, IL 60010).
Here is a map of the marina showing where we will be.

You just need to turn left when you pull into the marina and then just keep going until you get to the special use area, and then go down that gravel road to the campsite.

Our itinerary is to work on the firem’n chit for the new scouts, work on the Wilderness Survival requirement for starting a fire three different ways without matches, and then learn how to make char cloth.

Meet at the Marina at 11:00am.
Bring a water bottle.
Bring firestarting materials such as flint and steel, matches, magnifying glass if you own one, dryer lint, steel wool/battery, aluminum can and chocolate, eye glasses, egg shell wax firestarters, friction bow/spindle materials, kindling, etc.

Mr Smith will be bringing a shovel, some buckets, a bunch of empty altoid tins, some cotton cloth, a fire piston, an ultra-cheap flint and steel, a medium-priced flint and steel, and a high-end flint and steel.
