Muskegon Luge – Saturday, February 20th
On Saturday, February 20th we will have a day trip to Muskegon Winter Sports Complex.
Due to Covid restrictions, this outing will be a “family trip.” The troop is only coordinating a time and place as well as reserving the time slot. Families are responsible for driving or making arrangements to transport their scouts to and from Muskegon, Michigan. Siblings and parents are encouraged to sign up for the luge session. The cost is $49 per person for a 2 1/2 hour “learn to luge” session where each person will go down the luge around 4-6 times. Participants must be at least 8 years of age. Elbow pads, helmet and use of authentic luge training sled are included.
Here are some facts about the facility:
The luge track is 850 feet.
The sled is 30 lbs.
There are only 4 luge tracks in the nation
The track has been used for Olympic training by Team USA
The 9.5-mile lighted cross-country ski trail is the longest in the Midwest
A lighted quarter-mile skating path meanders through a white pine forest
There are cabins in the area if families are interested in spending the night.
This event will be a blast. However, there are risks. We do not know what the Covid situation will be. The event is 3 to 4 hours away, in Michigan. Some scouts may have school restrictions on leaving the state. In addition, some parents may have work restrictions on leaving the state. Though the sports complex has verbally sounded flexible as far as cancellation scenarios, their written policy is NOT flexible, so you may want to assume that the tickets are non-refundable. Be sure to read their cancellation policy listed at the bottom of this page.

Weather
We understand various types of winter weather driving conditions prevent some participants from feeling comfortable to drive to our location. We suggest you follow weather forecasts and allow ample time to make the trip within your comfort level. As a general rule in the winter sports industry we DO NOT CLOSE OR ISSUE REFUNDS for adverse winter weather conditions. Extended days of above freezing temperatures can cause us to cancel luge reservations if we deem the sliding experience isn’t up to our luge experience standards, in which case you WILL receive a full refund. Based on several deciding factors we will notify all ticket purchasers of cancellation no later than 48 hours before their scheduled session.
